Dr. Svetlana Isakova and I met in university as classmates, but after school she took a position in St. Petersburg while I traveled the continent. Luring Svetlana away from St. Petersburg to the taiga for this project took a lot of convincing. She skipped my first expedition altogether. When that first team fell apart, maybe Svetlana pitied me, I don't know -- but she came on the next train available. She didn't even ask how much the job was paid! Now Svetlana tracks and forecasts changes in weather patterns on the taiga. Her research is the cornerstone for all of our work.
